I hope you had the chance to visit one of the bonsai exhibitions running around the country over the past few months. If you are a bonsai hobbyist, looking at other peoples bonsai is a great way to help improve your own trees. Stay in touch with the Events Calendar on this web site to find out when the exhibition are running near you in 2012 and make an effort to go along.

The fourth issue of our new national Bonsai magazine has been published. If you haven’t subscribed yet please click on “Subscribe to our magazine” on the Home Page to download the Subscription Form. We are focussing on producing “how to” bonsai articles by the best of this country’s bonsai artists, so do yourself a favour and subscribe!

As we head into the end of December I would like to wish you all a very safe and happy Christmas and all the very best for 2012.

New Australian National Bonsai Magazine

It has been many years since Australia had a national magazine available for general subscription and we are now off and running with one again. Simply called “Bonsai magazine”, the magazine is being published 6 times a year and includes “how to” articles by the best of Australia’s bonsai artists. Anyone can subscribe and to do so you need to click on “Subscribe to our magazine” and download the Subscription Form. It costs $27.95 per year if you want to receive the magazine electronically, or $39.95 if you would like to receive a printed copy. This is a great way to stay in touch with what is happening on the Australian bonsai scene and to learn new techniques.

This new web site

We hope you like the new Association web site. Member Clubs of AABC now have a dedicated “Members Only” section that you will need to log in to, and this is only available to club executives. This section contains all the policy documents, VTP information and forms and the other bits and pieces of administrative stuff.

The rest of the web site is freely accessible to anyone so if you want to “Find a Bonsai Club“ just click on the State you reside in you will be taken to a list of all the Member Clubs in that State, with contact details. Similarly “Find a Bonsai Nursery” will help you find a specialist nursery. We invite you to explore the site.

25th Australian National Bonsai Convention

The next National Bonsai Convention is in Melbourne in May 2012 and you can find all those details through this web site. Simply click on "Next Convention" on the Home Page. The International Demonstrator for this convention is Mr. Boon Manakitivipart from Northern California. Boon is an exceptional bonsai artist who has won many international bonsai awards.

The National Bonsai & Penjing Collection of Australia - NBPCA

The National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia, located in Commonwealth Park in Canberra is going to move to a new home in 2013. The ACT Government has published details of the new site as part of the new Arboretum development in the city. To find out more about the collection, go to www.cbs.org.au/NBPCA/Index.htm.

World Bonsai Friendship Federation Photo Contest 2013

WBFF announces the World Bonsai Photo Contest 2013. The contest will accept entries up until 1 Sep 2012. Please read the outline of the Contest here WBFF World Bonsai Photo Contest 2013 outline. Asia-Pacific Bonsai & Suiseki Convention & Exhibition

Around 50 Aussies attended the above convention in Takamatsu, Japan in November, so we had very strong representation. The standard of the bonsai and suiseki on display and the quality of the demonstrations was excellent. If you missed it, the next one is in 2013, in Jintan, China.

World Bonsai & Suiseki Events

A pretty good schedule of world bonsai and suiseki events can be viewed by going to www.wbff-2013.org click on “World Events” along the top navigation bar, then “Calendar” from the drop down list, then “Events Table 2011” at the top of the list. This list of events is particularly good for the UK and Europe.
