Photographic Competition 

For many years the Association ran a photographic competition but this concluded in 2008 with little support it was decided to put the money and the effort to better use, thanks for all the participants over the years and certainly the only entrant for 2008 was John Oldland from W.A. and his tree is shown below.

Well done John and this tree also appeared in a BCI magazine recently

Betty Crawford Encouragement Award

In 2005 the Association introduced a competition to give the opportunity to an up and coming Bonsai artist to attend a Convention, all the member clubs need do is nominate the new Bonsai enthusiast, since the commencement Betty Crawford has been the sponsor of this competition.

All member Clubs are able to nominate one of their members for the competition and the AABC Ltd Executive will draw the winner at random.  The draw will be conducted two months prior to the Convention to enable the winner to make the necessary arrangements to attend the Convention.  If the person has already registered for the Convention they will be reimbursed.

The matters that Clubs should take into consideration in making their nomination include: 

• the person nominated should be relatively new to bonsai, preferably has not been involved in bonsai for more than five years and whose interest in bonsai is still developing;

• the person is actively involved in the activities of the Club, but not necessarily on the Executive of the Club;

• the persons knowledge of bonsai would be enhanced by their attending the Convention and the workshop;

• whether the person nominated could use the knowledge he or she gained from the Convention to benefit the Club.

The object of the Competition is was to encourage someone who is relatively new to bonsai, regardless of their age, who will benefit from attending a Convention, not for people who have been involved in bonsai for many years and who have attended previous Conventions.
